Identity theft is an ever increasing problem; however, there are steps individuals can take to deter identity theft, detect when identity theft has taken place, and defend against the damage that identity theft causes.

Small FTC Identity Theft BrochureThis is a small brochure in PDF format published by the FTC which gives a quick overview of the steps needed to deter, detect, and defend identity theft. There is a larger, much more detailed booklet (that includes an affidavit form and form letters to send to creditors) below.

This is FTC's large (7,058 kb) and detailed booklet about identity theft. We recommend that you download and save a copy to your computer because it's size can make it hard to read online.
